Cooper's misfortune

Wednesday night we heard Cooper start to scream and we ran to the living room and saw Malia running to hide behind the couch. She said she went to pick him up and he hit his head on the wall. We think she then must have dropped him. I was scared to pick him up because he was acting so weird screaming. Then we watched him for a little while thinking it was his head, and he wouldn't stop crying. He finally stopped after a while, and when I went to put him down I realized that he wouldn't put his leg down, he would just tuck it up and would not stand on it. Which is not normal because he has just started taking 3 or 4 steps by himself. So then the decision. Do we take him to the Dr. or not? It was about 7:00 by then and he was still whimpering so we just decided to have him checked out. He whimpered all the way to the hospital.
We waited in the room for a while.

Then they took some xrays. The tech couldn't see anything below the knee so they took some more of his hip.
By this time Cooper was not happy and so tired! He fell asleep waiting for the Dr. to come talk to us.

The Dr. showed me the xrays and said he couldn't see anything standing out, but he would have the Radiologist look at them.
So they sent us home.
Yesterday he didn't act like he was in pain at all, but he would not put any pressure on his foot, and wouldn't even stand up on it until I gave him ibuprofen, then he would try.
They told me to follow up with his pediatrician. Their office said they got the radiologist report and there was a suspicious spot, a possible hairline tibia fracture. So they told me to get into a Pediatric Orthopedic. So today they sqeezed us in. Cooper was standing up on his leg now, but acting like it hurt a little. The Dr. told us it is what they call a toddler fracture where you can't really see anything in the xray, but they won't put weight on it. He said he would put a cast on it, but I had the option of not putting one on too. He said the cast would not hurt anything, but he has seen cases where they didn't put on one and they came back in days later with it worse. So I decided to just play it safe and have them put one on.

It has not stopped him one bit. He has already figured out he can still crawl and he stands up on it a lot easier than without it. He has to have it on for 3 weeks, so we will see how long it takes him to get frustrated with it.
Big sister feels really bad, and I think she has learned her lesson why we kept telling her not to pick him up, it's just too bad she (and Cooper) had to learn the hard way.

Oh, poor baby Cooper... His cast is pretty cute, though, if he has to have one.

Oh that stinks. It reminds me of Brooke's kids they tend to need things like casts. I hope he is okay with it for three weeks!

Poor kid!

I need to have Gabe read this to remind him why he can't pick Betsy up.

He gets more and more cute every time I see pictures of him. He is such a cutie pie!! I will have to show this post to Ashlee so maybe she will learn NOT to pick up Jeff before it is too late!!
